JOIN THE VOX MEDICALIS CHOIR!

We are always looking for new Voxists to make music with and befriend. Proof of this are the 16 years of rehearsals, concerts, tours, and – why not? – Parties!

Criteria you need to meet to join the Vox Medicalis Choir:

  • Some previous musical experience, ideally in a choir, is desirable.
  • Good voice, ideally well-trained if you have sung in other choirs or taken singing lessons
  • At least basic knowledge of solfeggio, or very good musical ear to help you learn the repertoire quickly
  • Living in Bucharest or its surroundings
  • Read in detail the other information about how we operate, which is listed below.

If you wish to join the Vox Medicalis Choir, please send us by email the following:

  • A few lines about your previous musical experience (which choirs you have sung in, what voice, how many years, if you have taken music lessons, singing lessons, or any instrument lessons).
  • An attachment with 2 audio files:

One in which you sing a piece from your personal repertoire (it can be unaccompanied; you don’t have to go overboard)

One in which you perform the following vocal exercise, starting from somewhere comfortable and going up as far as you can (chromatically, semitone by semitone), then down as far as you can.

Other information about how we operate:

  • We will respond to your email within a maximum of 7 calendar days to invite you to a face-to-face audition.
  • If at that time we do not need additions to the section you are applying for, we will put you on a waiting list and contact you when an opening arises.
  • You must be available for rehearsals, which take place once or twice a week, on Mondays and/or Thursdays, from 7.45 to 10.15 PM.
  • Our rehearsal venue is Biserica Sfânta Cruce, Șoseaua Mihai Bravu 259 (Piața Muncii Metro Station), where we rent space; the rent is paid through a monthly contribution that varies depending on the number of rehearsals and can be between 50-100 lei per month (50% concession for students or people with financial difficulties – if this is the case, please let us know privately after the audition).
  • We are the only secular mixed choir in the country that welcomes expats living in Bucharest; thus, rehearsals are mostly in English.
  • We expect you to be open to the inclusive values we promote, and which are reflected in our working philosophy: we welcome people of any profession, age, nationality, ethnicity, race, religion, political opinion, sexual orientation; thus, any form of hate speech (religious, xenophobic, homophobic or otherwise) will not be accepted. If your principles do not align with this set of values, Vox Medicalis may not be suitable for you.
  • We are a secular choir that sings anything, from Renaissance to contemporary (including covers), from secular to sacred music (of any denomination), from Romanian music (including folk adaptations) to international. If your principles or aesthetics do not align with these values, Vox Medicalis may not be suitable for you.
  • When invited, depending on availability, we provide the musical part at services of any denomination; we also ensure the conscience comfort of all members (for example, having an important community of Seventh-day Adventists, we will not hold concerts with secular music between sunset on Friday evening and sunset on Saturday evening; but we may have sacred concerts during this interval or perhaps a service in a church of any denomination). If your conscience does not allow these values, Vox Medicalis may not be suitable for you.
